Your Dog-Friendly Itinerary
Offering insight into the best activities for dogs in Cornwall this year, Joe Knight, Head of Guest Experience, says:
“There’s so much to do with your dog in Cornwall beyond booking a restaurant where dogs are allowed, you just need to know where to look. At Perfect Stays, we keep ourselves up-to-date with the latest events and places to visit for both humans and their furry friends, so you don’t have to.
For the outdoors
“Taking your dog to the beach is an obvious one, but why not take this a step further by giving them a surfing lesson. Wavehunters operates across a number of beaches in Cornwall, and you can rent a surfboard and take lessons with your four-legged friend. On the topic of water, Jubilee Pool based in Penzance hosts an annual ‘Dog Day’ where they open their geothermal pool to pooches and their parents.
“If you want to tour the local landscape on a bike, there’s no need to leave your dog at home. Experience the popular Camel Trail and rent a dog trailer bike with Bridge Bike Hire. Cycle to Padstow and pop into one of our favourite dog shops by the harbour, Slickers, so your dog can also bring home coastal souvenirs. If you prefer to travel by train, Bodmin Railway offers dog tickets for just £2.50.
For food
“Hidden in a blissfully secluded cove near Newquay, and with stretches of sand and sea on its doorstep, you’ll find One Twenty Nine at Lusty Glaze. As well as having a permanent dog station filled with treats, balls, water and dog beds, treat your pup to a tasty ice-cream to fuel long walks by the shore. For cafes, nip into Woods Café in Cardinham – they have dog treats inside and you can create your own puppuccino. For fine-canine-dining, visit the restaurant at Penventon Park Hotel, where dogs can choose from a whole menu including steak and sausages, with vegetarian options available.
For shopping
“Paws in Padstow is the place to go for all holidaying dog-lovers. Stop by their shop at Trevisker Garden Centre to stock up on feeding, walking and grooming supplies, discover great local brands, or just pop in for a chat with friendly owners Lynz and Mike, to take advantage of their extensive canine knowledge. Don’t forget to pick up a dog-friendly ice cream whilst you’re there!”
